Pursuant to Supreme Court Order 21-8300-0001 and Rule 1-144 NMRA of the Rules of Civil Procedure for the District Courts, any proposed guardian and/or conservator must watch a series of videos to complete the Adult Guardian and Conservator Orientation Program. A judge may also order an existing guardian and/or conservator to watch these videos.
POTENTIAL GUARDIAN OR CONSERVATOR A Certificate Acknowledging Completion of the Adult Guardian and Conservator Orientation Program must be filed with the court clerk at least five (5) calendar days prior to the judge holding a hearing on the petition to appoint a guardian or conservator.
EXISTING GUARDIAN OR CONSERVATOR If you have already been appointed as the guardian or conservator for another adult and the judge has ordered you to watch these videos, you must file a Certificate Acknowledging Completion of the Adult Guardian and Conservator Orientation Program with the court clerk as proof that you have complied with the judge’s orders.
COMPLETING THE ADULT GUARDIAN AND CONSERVATOR ORIENTATION PROGRAM (Videos)
- The Adult Guardian and Conservator Orientation Program is a series of videos that describe the duties and obligations of a Guardian and a Conservator. If you are the guardian, you must watch all six (6) videos to complete the Orientation Program. If you are the conservator, you must watch all eight (8) videos to complete the Orientation Program.
- Please download the Certificate Acknowledging Completion of the Adult Guardian and Conservator Orientation Program. You will need to write down when you watched each of the videos and fill out this information on the Certificate. You must also sign, date and provide the Court with all of the information asked on the Certificate.
- You must file the completed Certificate with the court clerk to prove that you watched all of the required videos. You should keep a copy of the Certificate for your records. Please note that filing the Certificate does not mean that you provide the Judge with a copy. You must file the Certificate with the court clerk so that it becomes part of the official court record.
- If you serve as a guardian or conservator for multiple adults, you must file a Certificate in each case that you are appointed.
